Officials hope they'll have a response from the state Department of Transportation by next summer to an application for funding to address the section from West Pleasant Avenue to Parkway.

“Oak Avenue was in need of repair,” Mayor Adrian Febre told Daily Voice. “Last year (the borough engineer and council) drove around and identified which of the roads were in most need of immediate repair. Every year we will continue to tack the next road on the list.”

The goal, Febre said, is to eventually repair all borough roadways.

Work already has begun on Parkway, Spring Valley Road, Lincoln Avenue, Jersey Avenue and a section of Elm Street from Grove Avenue to Park Avenue that Febre called "one of the worst sections in town."

Improvements include milling the ground, repaving and adding curbing. Work has already begun on Grove Avenue and Elm Street for this year, in hopes of beating the weather.

“We want to get to every street, which would be about $5 million,” Febre said. “In 10 years, the streets we are doing now will be back on the list, so it will be a never-ending cycle of repaving our roads.”
